PATIENT INFORMATION - ANESTHESIA
Anesthesia services are provided by certified anesthesiologists who are highly qualified in all aspects of outpatient anesthesia. Our Anesthesia Provider will address any questions or concerns you may have and will perform a full assessment on you prior to surgery.
Be sure to discuss any medications you are currently taking with your Anesthesia Provider. The appropriate type of anesthesia will be determined by your surgeon in consultation with the anesthesiologist.
There are three types of anesthesia:
- Local: Local anesthesia is when a drug is injected near nerves providing loss of sensation to the area of the operation. You will experience temporary loss of feeling and/or movement of a specific limb or area.
- Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC): Monitored Anesthesia Care is when a drug is injected into the bloodstream or breathed into the lungs producing a semi-conscious state. You will experience reduced anxiety and pain, partial or total amnesia.
- General: General anesthesia is when a drug is injected into the bloodstream or breathed into the lungs. You will experience a total unconscious state with possible placement of a tube into the windpipe.
